I can't wait to visit this place again! My honey and I had such an awesome time and we were just passing through. The employees were very friendly and helpful! We had only about an hour to mine and we did great! Wonderful customer service, great value, and great fun! Be prepared to get dirty! They have tools to rent but be sure to dress for the occasion and wear safety glasses.
Great experience for taking my family rock hunting for the first time (ages 5-12). Bring sunblock, heavy hammers and a bucket. The shop has plenty of rental equipment for a reasonable price. We found a lot more crystals once we figured out the right type of rock to crack open. Highly recommended.
Gone for the past 3 years as a day trip. Prepare to get dirty and to sift and smash and chip at stones before you find anything decient size. A family of five working 6 hours found probably 7 decient stones only 2 we're good size and perfect, but mostly shards and chips of Herkimer diamond. I give you a tip, go on sunny days and search for anything with a shine or sparkle especially along the edges of piles and along the roads inside the mining area, you'll definitely find some but they will be small, or buy a bag of 50 for around $30 and purposely sprinkle a few in a small area for your children to find. That way they get a better experience.
